Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, and Councillor Richard Thake welcomed the decision by Royal Mail to replace the Hitchin Town Centre Post Office whose proposed closure has caused an uproar.
They congratulated Keith Hoskins, the Town Centre Manager, on his success in finding this new site at Brookers.
Peter Lilley said: “It would have been unacceptable for a town like Hitchin not to have a central Post Office ? not least to meet the needs of pensioners, disabled people and young mothers. That is why I strongly supported the campaign for a new site and took up the issue with the Chairman of Royal Mail.?
Councillor Thake added: “It is great news that Brookers have successfully tendered for the Post Office franchise. The new Post Office will be established in their Bucklersbury Store and should be ready by the third week of February shortly after the current facility in More closes.?
