Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, joined volunteers planting flowers in Harpenden town centre at the weekend to publicise the Community Service Volunteers? Make A Difference Day, which falls on Saturday, the 27th October 2001. Together with Harpenden Town Mayor, Councillor Teresa Heritage and Councillor John Chambers, Mr. Lilley planted winter flowering pansies in the town centre to launch next year?s ?Harpenden in Bloom?.
Peter Lilley said: “We have had a marvellously productive morning planting winter flowering pansies. I congratulate town councillors and members of the ?Harpenden in Bloom? Working Party on their sterling work in preparing Harpenden for next year?s entry into the ?Anglia in Bloom? competition.
“It is important that community activities such as this are widely
recognised and that many in the Harpenden area are able to contribute to
Community Service Volunteers? Make A Difference Day on Saturday 27th October. They can help by giving blood, shopping for an elderly or housebound neighbour or organising arts and crafts events for local children.
