Visiting the M1 Widening Exhibition in Redbourn Village Hall on Saturday, the 24th January, Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, said: “This is an opportunity to reduce motorway noise affecting Redbourn.”
He is writing to the Transport Minister urging him to authorise use of the quietest possible surface when the M1 is widened, as well as adequate ‘bungs‘.
Together with Parish Councillor, Anthony Bull, and local campaigner, James Lowen, Peter Lilley took sound measurements with a decibel meter at key locations in the village.
“Peak readings are well over 70dB and the steady drone is in the mid 60s even well away from the motorway. We are monitoring sound now to provide evidence to the Department of Transport that we need sound reducing measures when the extra lanes are built. These readings will provide a base level against which to measure future changes” said Peter Lilley.
