Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, joined officers on Operation Sharp for their evening patrol last Saturday (6 March) covering Hitchin and surrounding villages.
Peter Lilley said: “It was a fascinating opportunity to see how the North Herts community team deal with the problems that arise on a typical Saturday evening – responding rapidly to public calls, defusing potential trouble and deterring a lot more by their presence. I was impressed by the detailed knowledge the officers had of the area and their skill in developing a rapport with young people – some of whom had a record of causing trouble.”
“A member of the public who called the police because youths had placed bollards dangerously in the road said he was very impressed both by the speed at which the team reached him and the way in which they dealt with the youths concerned.”
“I am all the more convinced of the importance of a regular, visible police presence throughout the constituency.”
