Four MP trustees of the Parliamentary Contributory Pension Fund, including Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, have sat and passed the Trustee Certificate of Essential Pensions Knowledge.
The Certificate, which is offered by the Pensions Management Institute is a unique qualification, designed specifically to test trustees? knowledge. Its syllabus covers all aspects of trusteeship including scheme management, investment, legal and actuarial issues
Peter Lilley said: “Ever since I was Secretary of State responsible for pensions policy, I have felt trustees should take their responsibilities extremely seriously. So I thought it was right to lead by example and take these exams. It would have been somewhat embarrassing if I had not passed given my previous responsibility for the new structure of pensions law which I introduced following the Maxwell scandal!
