Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, presented the awards at the Young Enterprise County Final last week at the Fielder Centre at the University of Hertfordshire. More pupils from Hertfordshire schools took part this year than in any other county in the UK.
Delivering the keynote address, Peter Lilley said: “It is exciting to see young people displaying their enterprise and business skills by setting up successful businesses whilst still at school. Twenty years ago this would not have happened as schools then tended to shun anything to do with business and enterprise. I am delighted schools nowadays recognise that enterprise is creative and socially valuable. It bodes well for Britain?s economic future and shows that the enterprise culture is now deeply embedded in our society.
These Young Enterprise UK awards inspire and equip young people to succeed through enterprise. I was very impressed by the calibre of the schemes of all the finalists.
“I congratulate the team from St Columba?s in St Albans on their win in these county finals and wish them every success in the national finals.?
