Rt Hon Lord Lilley

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, addressed the Liberal Summer School in Harpenden on Saturday ? probably the first Conservative MP ever to be invited to do so.

The conference was about Global Warming and Climate Change and Peter Lilley was asked to discuss whether “sustainability is too important to be left to the market?? and then participate in a panel discussion with Sir Crispin Tickell, Chairman of the Climate Institute.

Peter Lilley said “I was delighted to debate these issues across the party divide. I argued that sustainable development is too important to leave entirely to government and bureaucratic controls and that we should harness market forces to ration scarce resources and to generate new solutions. If we do the outlook is far more hopeful than the doom mongers would have us believe.?
