Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, is backing Hertfordshire County Council?s call on the government to withdraw its plans to impose 478,000 houses in the East of England. This follows the decision by the East of England Regional Assembly to suspend its support for these plans.
Peter Lilley said: “I do not see how the government can press forward with plans which no longer have the support even of the unelected East of England Regional Assembly which the government were using to claim some semblance of regional support.
“The reason even this body, which the government can normally manipulate, has suspended its support is because the government is refusing to make funds available to finance the infrastructure which this huge number of extra homes would require.
“It is clear that the government?s right hand does not know what its left hand is doing.?
