Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, joined The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Harpenden and the local United Nations Association to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the United Nations. The MP read the Preamble to the UN Charter as the UN flag was raised over the Council Offices on Monday, 24th October.
Peter Lilley said: “It was fitting to celebrate the founding of the United Nations at the end of the last World War and give thanks for the part it has played in preventing conflicts on that scale ever occurring again. Let us hope future battles will only be fought against poverty and hunger. I congratulate the Harpenden branch of the United Nations Association on its hard work campaigning in support of the United Nations and its agencies throughout the world.?
