    Harpenden memorial Hospital faces new threat: a massive petition and protests b y GPs forced the local PCT to reprieve the Memorial Hospital. Now the new Hertfordshire PCT plans to steamroller through closure plans without further consultation at their meeting at 2.30pm on the 29 November at Harpenden Public Hall, Southdown Road.     Super-hospital at Hatfield cancelled: the promise made by the then Health Minister, John Reid, before the last election has now Been scrapped. No new hospital. No cancer centre. No leading hospital. But the run down of all other local hospitals agreed on the assumption that Hatfield would be built, will still go ahead.

    Hemel and QEII Hospitals to be downgraded: Both will lose A&E, children’s services, obstetrics and midwifery services.
