Peter Lilley welcomed the announcement yesterday that Hertfordshire has been chosen to pilot the introduction of 30 hours of free childcare per week for 3- and 4-year-olds.
Peter said: “I am delighted that starting in September – a year ahead of the rest of the country – Hertfordshire parents will have access to this increase in free childcare provision. Since this is a pilot scheme, I look forward to hearing from local parents how this works out for them.”
At the moment, parents of 3- and 4-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare per week, along with parents of the most disadvantaged 2-year-olds. The new scheme will see that allowance increased to 30 hours per week. It will start on a pilot basis in Hertfordshire and seven other local authorities. The full roll-out across the country will not start until September 2017.
