Over 120 conservatives from across Hitchin and Harpenden gathered on Sunday for a party hosted by Peter Lilley MP in honour of local Conservative agent Geraldine Mitchell, who is retiring this year after masterminding five successive general election victories in Hitchin and Harpenden, as well as celebrating the return of a Conservative government.
Members of Hitchin and Harpenden Conservatives held the party to thank Geraldine Mitchell, who is retiring after almost 20 years, and to celebrate the fifth successive General Election victory for which she has been responsible as well as a string of successes in local elections.
Peter said, "You might think we are here to celebrate a victory, but we are also mourning a loss. Geraldine has been a wonderful agent throughout my tenure as Member of Parliament for Hitchin and Harpenden. Her can-do attitude and unrivalled organisational skills mean that my ideas become reality within hours and she has overseen the creation of our most successful activities, including tours to the Houses of Parliament for thousands of people, hundreds of house meetings and the ever-popular "grill your MP” evenings.
"Her charm, quick wit and incredible patience mean that she will be an extremely hard act to follow. I would like to thank her for everything she has done for the Association over the years and for orchestrating so many successful local and General Election campaigns. I wish her a long and happy retirement.”
