Peter Lilley visited volunteers at the British Heart Foundation shop in Hitchin to show support for their “Fight For Every Heartbeat” campaign. Peter was given a behind-the-scenes tour to see how the charity shop works before meeting a group of local volunteers to discuss their work.
“I enjoyed my visit immensely,” said Peter. “I had no idea that there was such a hive of industry behind the scenes of a charity shop involving so many volunteers – from sorting and cleaning stock to manning the tills and fundraising. It was wonderful to see volunteers of all ages and walks of life coming together to support this charity, and in doing so, making a difference in the fight against heart disease.”
“This a great local resource, not only raising money that funds life-saving medical research, but also providing heart health information to the people of Hitchin. I congratulate the 40 or more volunteers from our community who give up their time to keep this shop running and am glad to support them as they continue to build on their success.”
