Rt Hon Lord Lilley

Peter Lilley opened the 2014 Cockernhoe Memorial Hall Village Fete on Saturday 10th May. The event was a huge success raising some £3200 despite adverse weather conditions forcing much of the festivities indoors. £300 was donated to Cockernhoe Primary School and the rest will go towards improving facilities and equipment for the village hall so that it can better serve the needs of the local community.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for the whole Cockernhoe community to get together to enjoy a great day out while raising money for local initiatives,” said Peter. “I was delighted to see such a splendid turnout from young and old alike, despite the weather. An excellent amount was raised and I look forward to seeing the results once it has been spent.

“I reopened the new Memorial Hall four years ago, and it was great to be back there to help support this community project as it goes from strength to strength. I am glad to see this community taking ownership and being proactive in improving their local amenities. Thank you to the whole organising committee and the students from Cockernhoe school and Barnfield College, who provided the behind-the-scenes organisation that made the day such a success.”
