Peter Lilley MP joined Marie Michaelides and other winners of the Pearson Teaching Awards on Monday afternoon for an awards ceremony in the House of Commons. Marie, a Deputy Head teacher at the Highover JMI School in Hitchin, has won the prestigious ‘Teacher of the Year in a Primary School’ award for the East of England.
Marie was shortlisted from a record number of nominations and will join the other winning teachers from across the country at a UK Ceremony to be aired on BBC2 in the autumn.
“It was a pleasure to meet Marie and congratulate her on receiving the prestigious ‘Teacher of the Year in a Primary School in the East’ award for her contribution towards the education of pupils at Highover JMI School in Hitchin. This is a terrific achievement, particularly given the high number of nominations this year. From what her colleagues have said, she is an inspiration to other teachers who has gone beyond the call of duty, making a difference not only to the lives and learning of her students, but also to the school community as a whole.”
