Mr Lilley expressed concern about reports that the NHS might cease to provide any services at Harpenden Memorial Hospital, partly because the facilities in the present building are deemed to be unsuitable.
Peter Lilley said: “It has in the past been agreed that there is a good economic case as well as strong support from patients and their families for providing post-operational and day care at the hospital. The Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust feels it has better alternative operating capacity in West Hertfordshire and is considering the possibility of transferring the current, restricted, service to another location. I am arranging a meeting with the Trust to discuss how these facilities can best be provided for the people of Harpenden in the future.”
