The patrol will be an opportunity for him to hear about the Specials Rural Vehicle – which has been sponsored by local Parish Councils, businesses and some local farmers. Rural Special Constable Downs will point out problem spots with anti-social behaviour, fly tipping sites and speeding, and will brief Peter Lilley on a recent operation during which the Rural Vehicle stopped and tested vehicles for red diesel.
Rural Special Constable Richard Downs said: ‘So far, the Specials Vehicle has been a success in being a highly-visible presence and deterrent to criminals, as well as making it easier for me to get to places quickly to make arrests for crime or anti-social behaviour. I am very grateful for the support of the Watling Ward and Redbourn Parish Councils for their donations that have made this possible. Friday will be a great opportunity for our local MP to see the area’s problem spots and meet some of the local farmers’.
Peter Lilley said: ‘I understand that the Rural Vehicle has been very well-received since it was deployed in April and that it is having a positive effect on the areas it patrols. I look forward to meeting Rural Special Constable Downs on Friday and getting an insight on what progress is being made’.
