LILLEY TO CUT RIBBON TO START CHARITY WALK
Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, will be up early on Saturday morning to see off 120 walkers from all over the UK who are taking part in the 31st National Samaritans Walk.
He said: “I am delighted to show my support for the tremendous work done by the Samaritans, whose aim is to reduce the 5000 or so suicides in this country each year by offering emotional support.
“It is a difficult and demanding task, and all the volunteers deserve our gratitude and encouragement.
“I am particularly pleased that this year the walk will take participants through some of the loveliest parts of my constituency, using sections of the John Bunyan trail and the Icknield Way.
“It’s a great way to raise awareness of the work of the charity and to raise funds through sponsorship.”
* The Luton, South Bedfordshire and Harpenden branch of the Samaritans is hosting the walk, which starts at 0730 at the Cassell Memorial Hall in Lilley on Saturday June 12th. Participants walk either 15.5 miles or 27 miles.
