PRESS RELEASE FROM THE RT HON PETER LILLEY MP
Wednesday April 7th 2010
LILLEY TO OPEN NEW PUB NEAR HITCHIN
Hitchin MP Peter Lilley will leave the pre-election political scene behind for a short time on Friday (April 9) when he performs the official opening of the Rusty Gun pub between Hitchin and Codicote.
He said: “It will make a pleasant change from Westminster to cut the ribbon on this new venture. The owner, Chris Gerard, is from Whitwell, so there is a strong constituency link.
“I am pleased that the business is being taken over by a local man rather than an anonymous chain, and I very much approve of its policy of using as much local produce as possible. Most unusually, a produce shop has been added to the premises to showcase such local offerings as Wobbly Bottom cheese and Trussell sausages from Knebworth.
“I have often driven past the pub, which used to be called the Royal Oak, and it will be very interesting to see what changes have been made to the 18th century building.
NOTE: Peter Lilley will open the Rusty Gun, London Road, Hitchin, at 1300 on Friday April 9th. Press photographers are welcome to attend.
