Rt Hon Lord Lilley

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, attended a presentation ceremony in Whitehall when a National Excellence Award was handed to Sonia Chohan, chair of Hertfordshire Conservative Future, by David Cameron.

The award was in recognition of the campaign mounted by Herts CF to bring attention to the impact of the government’s decision to sell off a large quantity of the country’s gold reserves shortly before a sharp increase in gold prices.

Peter said: “The campaign was conducted with great energy, enthusiasm and wit.   It showed that young people can be fully engaged in the political process. It was a real pleasure to see Herts CF rewarded for its efforts.”

Speaking afterwards, Sonia said: “My thanks go to Peter for raising this issue in the House of Commons. The campaign to obtain the documents leading to Gordon Brown’s decision to sell our gold reserves at rock bottom prices, despite advice to the contrary, still continues.   But at least the government has now admitted to the multi-billion pound losses.”
