Following a packed public meeting on Luton Airport expansion on 30th October, Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, and local councillors are to hold a second meeting at Rothamsted Conference Centre, Harpenden on Friday 15th November at 7.30 pm. Hundreds of local residents will have another opportunity to express their views and discuss the implications of over-expansion for the surrounding areas.
Peter Lilley said:
“More than two hundred local people were turned away from the last meeting on 30th October. There is clearly a lot of concern in the community about excessive expansion of the Airport and it?s effect on the local environment. I am delighted that County Councillors Bernard Lloyd and Iris Tarry have arranged another opportunity for people to respond to the Government?s flawed proposals to over-expand Luton Airport. It is vital that local people realise what the government is planning.
“I shall particularly challenge the Government?s decision to plan on the assumption that Luton will have a new long runway, whereas proposals for new runways elsewhere are presented merely as an option.
“I recently joined forces with local councillors and residents to collect 650 signatures for the Luton Airport Petition in Harpenden on (26th October). Over 1,500 local residents from across Hitchin and Harpenden have now added their names to the petition.?
