Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, has welcomed the fact that the Government was forced to extend the Airports Consultation period, which was far too short. This follows a High Court ruling that the Government was wrong to exclude Gatwick from the Consultation.
Peter Lilley said after the announcement:
“The Consultation period was always far too short. I welcome the fact that it will be extended for a further four months. The Government was wrong in the first place to exclude Gatwick from such a major review of airport capacity in the South East. It is clear that the Government had not thought through all the alternatives properly ? including that for Luton ? before presenting them to the public.
“I shall use this opportunity to argue that the status of the proposal for a new, long runway at Luton should be changed to an option, rather than an assumption. I will also continue to mobilise massively growing support to stop over-expansion at Luton.?
