LILLEY WELCOMES JUDICIAL REVIEW OF GOVERNMENT'S AIRPORT EXPANSION PLANS

- Monday, 14th June 2004

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, has welcomed the news that that the High Court has given permission for a Judicial Review of the government?s plans for the expansion of airports in the South East.

Peter Lilley said: "I am delighted with this decision and congratulate local groups including Limit Luton Alliance, LADACAN and both Hertfordshire County Council and North Herts District Council on helping secure this review. The case for a Judicial Review is particularly strong in the case of Luton Airport because the government?s proposal is different from those about which local people were consulted; it involves an even longer runway extending a kilometre into Hertfordshire.

"In addition there are no plans for improving the transport infrastructure needed for expansion on this scale to deal with the disgorging of 25 million people onto the already overcrowded roads of Hertfordshire.?
