Lilley calls for hospital enquiry

- Wednesday, 28th February 2001

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, backs the calls made by the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for St Albans, Charles Elphicke, for an inquiry into complaints about gynaecological procedures carried out at Hemel Hempstead Hospital and the BUPA Hospital in Harpenden.

Peter Lilley said: "One of my constituents has made a very serious complaint about the results of surgery carried out by Lennox Kane. It is very important that West Herts Health Authority and the Hospital Trust take action to establish the validity of this complaint and to ensure that medical audit procedures are improved to prevent anything similar happening again.

"I understand that other patients have also made similar complaints in the past. In view of the fact that these complaints do not seem to have been properly investigated, I urge the Authority and the Trust to review their complaints procedures and to set up a help line for any patients who have had surgery performed by Mr Kane since his health began to deteriorate and who may need to have their concerns allayed.?
