MP raises Hemel decision in Health Questions

- Wednesday, 27th February 2002

Yesterday Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, asked the Health Secretary, Alan Milburn, to comment on last week?s decision to keep maternity and children?s units at Hemel Hempstead Hospital open.

Mr. Lilley said:

"I asked Mr. Milburn whether he agreed with the way local managers had handled the decision to close key services at Hemel Hempstead. It is time that he looks into this sorry and protracted affair, which has damaged the morale of dedicated staff at the hospital.

"Questions of managerial competence still hang over West Hertfordshire NHS Trust and I hope ministers look into this matter further. "
