Lilley welcomes preferred secondary school places for Wheathampstead

- Monday, 20th May 2002

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, today welcomed the news that all
Wheathampstead children have eventually secured school places in the
District.

Peter Lilley said:

"It is a pleasant change to be able to hand out praise for once: Herts
County Council deserves to be congratulated for ensuring that all
Wheathampstead children who were initially assigned to schools outside the
District now have places at a local school. This follows the forceful
representations that parents, Councillor Derek Hill and I made to the County
Council. The County has pulled out all the stops to put the situation
right.

"Following recent changes in the secondary school transfer arrangements, the
position should become easier for Wheathampstead parents and children in
future years. I shall of course carefully monitor how these changes affect
parental choice next year."
