Lilley seeks assurances from new Transport Minister on crash victims

- Tuesday, 18th June 2002

Following revelations that the Labour Government had been ‘digging for dirt‘
to discredit the Paddington Rail Survivors groups, Peter Lilley has written
to Alistair Darling, the new Transport Secretary, seeking assurances that no
similar action has been, or will be taken against those involved in the
Hatfield and Potters Bar crashes.

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, said:

"It was disgraceful of the Government to try to discredit the victims of the
Paddington disaster. I want to be sure no similar action has been or will
be taken against Hertfordshire people involved in the Hatfield and Potters
Bar tragedies or who have expressed critical views about these issues."
