MP keeps up pressure to improve policing in Wheathampstead

- Monday, 29th July 2002

After arranging two meetings earlier this year with the Chief Constable to discuss the Wheathampstead crime problem, Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, attended a recent follow up meeting in the village.

Peter Lilley said:

"It is encouraging that Wheathampstead?s crime problem has received attention from the police at the highest level. As a result there has been more police presence in the village; crime has diminished; and CCTV cameras are due to be installed at last. But it is important to monitor progress, maintain pressure and feed back suggestions for improvement to the police.

"I shall continue to work with the Parish Council, the Wheathampstead Against Crime Movement and local councillors until we have rid the village of fear of crime.?
