Lilley concerned about plans for East Luton corridor road

- Monday, 14th July 2003

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, expressed relief that the Secretary of State for Transport has denied any intention to build an outer orbital road and that his announcement on the strategic road network does not suggest that he is bringing this about by stealth.

However, Peter Lilley said: "I am very concerned that the government has given the go ahead for the A1081 East Luton Corridor road between Lilley Bottom and the airport before any decision has been made as to whether Luton Airport is likely to have an extra runway.

"There seems to be a marked lack of communication between the Roads Minister and the Airports Minister as the latter has recently been talking down the likelihood of major expansion at Luton Airport."
