Local Businessman warns Post Regulator of threat to jobs

- Tuesday, 23rd September 2003

More than 40 local business people were given a chance to quiz Martin Stanley the Chief Executive of Postcomm ? the Post Office regulator in Hitchin on Friday 19th September.

Martin Stanley was invited by Peter Lilley MP to address the Hitchin and Harpenden Business Club. He asked people?s views about Royal Mail?s plan to price postage by size of envelope rather than by weight.

Local resident Mike Pattison, CEO of the Hertfordshire based international publishing firm International Labmate Ltd, pointed out that this would drive British jobs overseas. "This might force us to print abroad since we mail hundreds of thousands of magazines abroad.

"I am grateful to Peter Lilley for the opportunity to put our case direct to the persons who will ultimately make this decision.?

Peter Lilley said "I am glad so many local business men and women were able to put their concerns to Martin Stanley and grateful to him for coming here to meet my constituents whose businesses depend on the Royal Mail.?
