MP welcomes decision to restore Kimpton children's access to Harpenden schools

- Tuesday, 16th December 2003

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, has welcomed Hertfordshire County Council‘s speedy and positive response to his and Kimpton‘s parents‘ concerns by reversing a proposal which would have excluded Kimpton children from the priority area for transfer to Harpenden secondary schools in 2005/2006.

Peter Lilley said: "I shared the concerns of Kimpton parents and the Parish Council that the village was initially placed in Relevant Area 3 in the County Council‘s consultation on 2005-2006 secondary school admissions. This was contrary to the proposed criteria outlined in the Consultation Document which clearly states that the LEA should take into account recent patterns of allocations from primary to secondary school.

"As children from Kimpton predominantly transfer to Harpenden schooIs, I am very glad that the County Council has responded so rapidly and will now place Kimpton Primary School in Relevant Area 7 which will maintain the village‘s historic links with Harpenden Schools."
