Lilley to Speak at Public Inquiry

- Tuesday, 20th January 2004

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, today, the 20th January, attended the opening session of the Inquiry into plans which could lead to building up to 10,000 houses on land between Stevenage and Hitchin.

He applied to speak at the Inquiry to put the case in defence of retaining a Green Belt lung between Hitchin and Stevenage. He will argue that sufficient sites have been identified on already developed land to accommodate the number of houses Hertfordshire is required to build; and the rate at which planning approvals have been given recently has actually been exceeding the numbers projected when it was thought there might be a need to build on greenbelt land.
