Rail Director to meet local businesses and commuters

- Monday, 2nd February 2004

A Director of the Strategic Rail Authority - Jeremy Mayhew - has agreed to meet face to face with local business people and commuters who are concerned about the national rail network and plans for services affecting Hitchin & Harpenden.

Mr Mayhew has been invited by Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, to address the Business and Professional Club at the Harpenden House Hotel at 12.30pm on Friday, the 6th February.

Peter Lilley said: "This will be an ideal opportunity to find out what has happened to the Thameslink 2000 plans to expand capacity on Thameslink and the SRA‘s Strategic Plan to improve rush hour capacity on the Hitchin to Kings Cross Line.

"Passengers on both lines are getting increasingly fed up with being herded like cattle into overcrowded carriages.

"Jeremy Mayhew‘s visit also comes at a key moment for railways nationally when government is considering another major re-organisation. It will be fascinating to hear from the inside what this may involve."
