Lilley welcomes Planning Inspector's decision on Ninespringsway

- Monday, 10th May 2004

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, has welcomed the Planning Inspector‘s decision to dismiss Wheatley Homes‘ appeal against North Herts District Council‘s refusal of permission to build 12 flats on the old Fountain pub site in Ninesprings Way, Hitchin.

Peter Lilley said: "I was delighted to learn that the Planning Inspector has turned down this appeal - mainly on the grounds of the effect of the proposed development on highway safety. Safety was my main concern and the issue I emphasised when writing to the Inspector to let him know my views.

"I share the Inspector‘s concerns that sightlines for vehicles exiting the site would be substantially below standard, particularly to the west, and would be made considerably worse by the regular obstruction of parked vehicles.

"I am glad too that he has taken into account the loss of privacy that would be suffered by neighbouring residents should this three storey block of flats be built."
