Whitwell Residents Win Right to have Homes Refurbished- Not Pulled Down

- Tuesday, 8th June 2004

A meeting of residents of Strathmore Road, Whitwell showed overwhelming support for the refurbishment of their homes rather than having them pulled down and re-developed. This result was accepted by North Herts Homes who previously claimed that the residents were in favour of re-development.

The meeting was called by St Pauls Walden Parish Council after representations by Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin & Harpenden, and David Miller, prospective candidate for Hitchwood in the district council elections.

David Miller said: "I am delighted that a consensus has been agreed and that North Herts Homes are honouring their original assurance that the wishes of its tenants would be accepted.?

Peter Lilley said: "I hope that as a result of this meeting, the tenants? fears that their homes would be pulled down have been laid to rest.?
