CONSERVATIVES CAMPAIGN AGAINST NHS CUTS

- Tuesday, 17th October 2006

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, joined councillors, health workers and others campaigning against cuts in the NHS. Nearly 900 people signed the petition in Hitchin Market Square in just a few hours.

Commenting on the petition Peter Lilley said, "Concern is running very high about what is happening to the NHS, especially in Hertfordshire. What was striking was the number of people who work for the NHS who came and told us their concerns.

"Not only are up to 1000 jobs due to go in the 2 Trusts serving Hitchin and Harpenden, but staff say that the cuts are affecting many aspects of patient care from the availability of patient records to hospital hygiene.

"The constant refrain I kept hearing was, "Where has all the money gone???
