Peter Lilley MP has today signed an Early Day Motion calling for the Department for Transport to ensure a requirement for four fast trains per hour is included in the forthcoming consultation on the re-franchising of the East Midlands line.

Peter said: "I support the Early Day Motion calling for four fast trains an hour to Luton Airport Parkway, above all because this will help reduce the proportion of passengers traveling to the airport by car and so minimise the impact on local roads and infrastructure. So I have put down an amendment to the Early Day Motion emphasising that point."

TRAIN LINKS TO LUTON AIRPORT

That this House notes the conclusions in the recent report from the independent consultancy North Star that timetable change alone would enable the current hourly East Midlands' train service at Luton Airport Parkway to increase to four fast trains per hour, and as a result turn London Luton Airport into one of the best connected London airports with journey times to London of less than 30 minutes; agrees that this change would deliver substantial benefits generating up to £110 million in additional rail revenue, making Luton Airport Parkway an integrated hub linking air, road and rail and providing easy access to much needed runway capacity at London Luton Airport <thereby reducing the proportion of passengers arriving by car and minimising congestion on local roads>; and calls on the Department for Transport to ensure a requirement for four fast trains per hour is included in the forthcoming consultation on the re-franchising of the East Midlands line.
