Pancake Day Races

Peter Lilley fired the starting pistol for the seven races - part of the annual Hitchin Pancake Festival - sending over 40 pancake-flipping racers through St Mary's churchyard for the chance to see their names engraved on the coveted shields. Prizes were awarded for the winners of each race, along with prizes for the best fancy dress. The gentlemen's fancy dress category was won by the local fire brigade, in full uniform, who carried their mascot into last place whilst spraying the crowd with water. Local businesses also sponsored races.

Peter said: "The Hitchin Priory Rotary Club put in an enormous amount of work to make the event a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many people of all ages taking part with such enthusiasm. I was delighted to start the races and present the prizes at the end of the morning. It was good to see local businesses getting involved too, and I look forward to hearing how much was raised for the Garden House Hospice as a result of everyone's efforts."
