Peter with David Reavill

Peter Lilley hailed the new Flexi-Care Unit at Lea Springs in Harpenden as setting new standards in provision for the elderly, during a visit this weekend. This new development, which is the first affordable flexi-care scheme in the District for older people, replaces the outdated properties at Lea Court and is part of the Council’s programme of redeveloping the area’s sheltered housing stock both to improve the quality of accommodation and to increase choice.

"The flats at this new development have been done to the highest standard and are very impressive," said Peter. "The complex has disabled access to every room and very comfortable communal areas. This vastly improved set-up will enable the residents to enjoy a better later life, help increase their independence, and avoid isolation.

"The great range of communal facilities, including a restaurant and hairdressers, will be open to the wider community making this a very public and welcoming space. This is the first of a new generation of new accommodation for older people and I look forward to seeing more opening elsewhere in Hertfordshire in due course."
