Lilley calls for extra tankers in Redbourn

- Saturday, 10th February 2001

. He was accompanied by Parish Councillor, Margaret Corley. He saw the rising floodwater at Ben Austins and the round-the-clock tanker operation (for which he had successfully lobbied Thames Water) to keep the sewage at bay in Church End.

Following the meeting, Peter Lilley called on the County Council to arrange a similar tankering operation to prevent even worse flooding at Ben Austins.

Peter Lilley said: "I welcome the fact that the County Council subsequently arranged for a tanker to pump out water from Ben Austins. Once the rain abates, the County?s Environment Department intends to bring in heavy duty pipe cleaning apparatus to remove the blockages which are preventing proper drainage. It is essential that the technical issue of whether pipes were or were not ?adopted? should not delay this action to end the flooding.
