The Priory School

The Priory Physics Avengers, comprised of sixth form students from The Priory School, Hitchin triumphed in the CanSat competition finals in York earlier this month. Organised by the European Space Agency, the activity gives secondary school pupils the unique opportunity to be involved in a real space-related project, as they simulate the functions of a real satellite in the volume and shape of a soft drink can.

"I have supported the team since they started out on this exciting project last October," said Peter. "I am delighted that they not only won the beginners category, but were also crowned the overall winners of UK CanSat 2014, giving them a spot in the European CanSat finals in Norway in June. The students have displayed great teamwork as well as practical application of physics and I wish them every success for the next, international, stage of the competition."

"As a scientist myself, I am delighted that The Priory School is producing such outstanding budding astro-physicists. I hope their great achievement will inspire many others to pursue science at A-level and beyond."
