Peter Lilley was unanimously reselected to be the Conservative candidate for Hitchin and Harpenden at the next General Election at a meeting of his Association's Executive Council. Peter said that it has been a privilege to represent the constituency since its formation in 1997 and how proud he is to have been selected to stand again in 2015.

"The country will face major challenges in the next 5 years," Peter told leading Party workers. "First, we must entrench our economic recovery. Then we must secure an overall majority at the next election. That is essential if we are to secure a successful renegotiation of Britain's membership of the EU ahead of a referendum in 2017.

"Locally we face the challenge of handling the pressures for development housing, schools, airport and infrastructure without destroying our beautiful countryside. We can't simply say "no" to all development; we need to build our share of new homes, since the housing crisis is at the root of many of our social and economic problems. We must, however, make every effort to do this while also protecting the greenbelt and the environment which is why most of us love living here.

"I hope the experience that I have acquired serving the people of Hitchin and Harpenden will continue to be of value in the coming years."
