MP WELCOMES UZBEK PARLIAMETARIANS

- Wednesday, 30th November 2011

At the request of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Peter Lilley MP showed them how he holds surgeries around the constituency, attends house meetings month by month and street by street, and holds visits to Parliament for constituents - a record 140 constituents came to Westminster last Thursday evening for a talk and a tour with Mr Lilley. The delegation visited St George’s school and sat in on a question and answer session with pupils.

Peter Lilley said: “Uzbekistan is a young country which has only been independent for twenty years, so it was encouraging that the Parliamentarians were so keen to learn how to put democracy into practice at a grass roots level.   I think they were impressed by the way we operate in this country and particularly on the willingness of young people to put probing questions to their MP.”

Mr Jeremy Hollingsworth, Assistant Head at St George’s School, said: “The students very much enjoyed Mr Lilley’s question and answer session. They had many interesting questions and his responses were thoroughly interesting and thought-provoking.”
