MP to introduce Patient Choice Bill in Parliament

- Monday, 28th October 2002

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, is to present a Ten Minute Rule
Bill in the House of Commons on Patient Choice in the NHS this Wednesday
(30th October).

Peter Lilley said:

"This Bill will seek to restore patients‘ rights to choose which NHS
hospital they would like to be treated at. This was abolished by the
Government in 1999. Now patients must go to the hospital with which the
local NHS bureaucracy has a contract.

"My Bill will aim to give patients greater information so that they can make
an informed choice about the hospital they want to go to. I want to see
taxpayers money following patient choice so that hospitals are rewarded with
resources to treat the patients they attract."
