Lilley to present Airport petition to Parliament

- Tuesday, 7th January 2003

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, will present the "Stop Luton Airport Expansion? petition to Parliament on the day before the revised Airport Consultation Document is published, which is expected to be in the next few weeks. He also called upon those who haven?t already done so to add their names to the petition.

Peter Lilley said:

"I will present the petition, which already has over 5,000 signatures, to Parliament the day before the revised document is expected to be published. In the last few months my mailbag has exploded with correspondence on plans to over-expand Luton Airport. I have now received over 1,000 letters on the subject of airport expansion ?virtually all opposing the government?s plans. However, this reflects only a fraction of the total amount of opposition expressed since proposals were published last year.

"If anyone wants to add their names to the "Stop Luton Airport? petition, they can do so by telephoning the Hitchin and Harpenden Conservative Association on 01582 834344 or emailing feedback@peterlilley.co.uk. It is vital that we continue to enlist even more support for the petition in the next few weeks ?and maintain the flow of letters after the presentation of the petition. I shall also make sure that Luton Airport is never far from the minds of Transport Ministers in the weeks and months ahead.?
